Recently, Shelter-In-Place or Stay-At-Home orders have been issued by local governmental authorities. TBPELS is not the entity in charge of issuing these orders or determining if specific engineering or surveying firms or engineering or surveying work is considered essential as described by the local government in your area. There has been no state-wide declaration, so please refer to the directions given by those authorities.
In each order (which can vary by jurisdiction), the issuing jurisdiction defines terms such as essential business, essential government, essential infrastructure, etc. For example, some orders mention provisions for utilities, local infrastructure, construction, real estate, etc. to continue to operate. These are areas where engineers or surveyors commonly work and the call would be made by the local jurisdiction and your employer.
TBPELS will keep you up to date on any new developments in this area.
Due to an abundance of caution related to the COVID-19 / Coronavirus situation, TBPELS has decided not to conduct any face-to-face meetings in the near future. In 2021, we'll review the situation and make determinations for future events. Webinars and video conferences are being held. Schedule your event by going to: http://engineers.texas.gov/outreach.html
PE License renewals are due on the expiration date as are the associated continuing education requirements. However, we understand that the COVID-19 virus is very serious and has caused the cancelation or postponements of various continuing education courses, conferences, and other events. IF you are audited for this renewal period and IF you didn't complete your hours due to a verifiable canceled or unavailable course or event based on COVID-19, let us know at the time of the audit. Please keep in mind that Board rules allow 5 hours of self-study per renewal cycle and that online courses may also be counted for continuing education purposes.
In order to do our part in the fight against COVID-19, the physical office building is closed for the foreseeable future. Processing times for any documents submitted, including public information act requests, will be delayed.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, IdentoGO is experiencing a temporary reduction of enrollment center hours as well as some office closures. Refer to this website: https://www.identogo.com/covid19 for additional information.
